These texts, the oldest of which date back to the Middle Ages, feature Merlin, the fairies Morgane and Viviane, King Arthur and certain knights of the Round Table. According to these tales, the forest of BrocƩliande is home to the Val sans retour, where Morgane traps unfaithful men until she is foiled by Lancelot du lac; and the fountain of Barenton, reputed to make it rain. BrocƩliande is also said to be the site of Merlin's retreat, imprisonment or death. July 13, 2024. Brittany. France.

The Barenton fountain
Michael Bunel / Le Pictorium
LePictorium_0294089.jpg
The Barenton fountain is both a legendary site in the forest of BrocƩliande (according to the texts of the Arthurian cycle) and a site in central Brittany, in the forest of Paimpont. It has become one of Brittany's most famous tourist sites linked to the Arthurian legend. Legend has it that if water is poured on the fountain's stoop, lightning and storms are triggered instantly. Another legend has it that Le village de folle PensƩe takes its name from the fountain's healing powers, which can cure madness. And finally, if you throw a pin into the fountain and say aloud: "Laugh, laugh, fountain, I'll give you a nice pin", if the fountain starts to bubble, you'll be married before Easter. Indeed, the water in the fountain bubbles at times despite the cold water. July 13, 2024. La folle pensƩe. Brittany. France.

The Cape, good hope?
Guillaume Lassus-Dessus/Le Pictorium
LePictorium_0240790.jpg
Has the new post-apartheid generation, called "born free", reappropriated the territories, dreams and hopes left by Nelson Mandela?
In Cape Town, the reality is much more complex. Barriers are now being erected with the social and economic disparities that affect every individual in a country where the hope of seeing a rainbow democracy born and living together still seems far away.

A man with gunshot wounds is taken to an ambulance from where he will be evacuated from the area for treatment. Tensions are high along the border between Gaza and Israel after more than a month of weekly mass protests near the barrier that left 50 Palestinian demonstrators dead and more than 1,700 injured by Israeli gunfire. Hamas leaders in Gaza have vowed that the marches will continue until the ten-year Israeli blockade of the territory is lifted. Protests are also expected on May 14 and 15, the day Palestinians will mark Yawm an-Nakba or "Day of Disaster" to commemorate the anniversary of their mass deracination during the 1948 war against the creation of Israel. May 11, 2018. Malaka. Gaza. Palestine.

Hamas leaders in Gaza have vowed that the marches will continue until the 10-year Israeli blockade of the territory is lifted. On May 15, the protests will culminate in the "nakba" or catastrophe, to commemorate the anniversary of their mass deracination during the 1948 war on the creation of Israel. May 13, 2018. Rafah, Gaza strip. Palestine.
