El Hadj Ibrahima Ka (R) and Ousmane Sow (L) at the Lompoul ecolodge, December 22, 2024. They have both worked at the Lompoul ecolodge since 2009. They both lived with their respective families in houses located on the road (Hameau of Wouro Djiby Ka) which leads to the ecolodge a few hundred meters from their workplace where they go every days. They were hastily deported on the night of Sunday December 16, 2024 to Monday December 17. Their homes, subject to vibrations and unbearable noise due to their proximity to the mine, had become too dangerous. After resettlement in a container was finally refused, the village chief and GCO finally found replacement accommodation in Lompoul sur mer located approximately 13km from his place of work, i.e. almost a 40-minute journey. The mine currently covers the rental of accommodation for 6 months and travel.
