During the meeting at the sacred stone place the military atmosphere is an echo of ancient liberation wars between the Sihanaka and the Sakalava. The white attire symbolises "pure race", i.e. a remnant from three-layered society in precolonial times, and kaolin body painting marks a connection to the spirit world.
After running in circle and much yelling and cheering the young people will dash out of the area, through the streets of Anororo and to the distant forest. Women will accompany them until the outskirts of the village with chanting and drumming.
