The military, which took over control of the country from Morsi last week, has denied that they opened fire on the protesters and claim the shootings resulted after they came under attack from members of the Muslim Brotherhood. The demonstrators at the sit in were demanding the release of Morsi, who they believe is being held inside the Republican Guard headquarters.
